Mr Phillip Edge F.C.S.(SA).Orth
Phillip is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon based at The Manor Hospital, Biddenham, Bedford. He is the senior consultant at Bedford Hospital with over 20 years of experience as a consultant. He also sees patients at The Bridges Clinic based in Bedford Hospital, and at the Harley Street Clinics in Biddenham
Phillip qualified as a doctor in 1984. He spent some time learning about internal medicine and cardiology, and then nearly two years doing general surgery. He then started a rigorous 6 year specialisation training program in orthopaedic surgery at the world renowned Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. His extensive and diverse experience is invaluable in treating patients as a whole, and allows him to put the patient's various illnesses and needs into perspective.
He took up his first NHS Consultant post at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital in 1996. In 2000 he transferred to Bedford hospital where he is now the senior orthopaedic surgeon.
Phillip has been working at BMI The Manor Hospital since 2000, and is the most experienced orthopaedic surgeon in the hospital.
He is always happy to see patients with musculo-skeletal problems who do not require operations. Many patient's minds are put at rest with a firm diagnosis from an experienced professional and require little further. Some may benefit from further treatment such as physiotherapy, osteopathic treatment, injections or specialised orthoses. Others may benefit from surgery. The team is always there to help patients and their families through this often stressful time.
Phillip has a broad experience in orthopaedic surgery, and regularly performs a variety of operative procedures. These include

- knee replacements (including computer guided surgery)
- arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery
- bunion and forefoot surgery
- surgery for painful shoulders
- various elbow operations
- hand surgery

Phillip works closely with a team of nurses, physiotherapists, podiatrists and his PA to make each patient's journey as pleasant as possible. We know that visiting a doctor can be a stessful experience, and continually strive to put patients at ease. We treat each patient as an individual. From booking an appointment to rehabilitation after surgery, the team is always there to help.
